Tuesday 3/7/2012 FACT VS OPINION

FACT vs OPINION? It's sound interesting right? I'm sure that all of you will be interested with this entry. Why I said like that? Because it can help you all to identify whether it is an opinion or a fact. For me, this lesson help me as I was really confused with this topic since I was learnt BEL 260. So guys, these are some tips that you all can use to differentiate the fact and the opinion.

FACT

  • dates / year
  • statistic / figure / precise number or quotations
  • definition
  • geographical on scientific fact
  • use the word "some"

OPINION
  • adjectives
  • comparison between two things or more
  • possibility, advisability
  • show a belief, a suggestion and a feeling
  • use the word "all"

Example :)

Siti Nurhaliza is a best singer in Malaysia who has been awarded all the trophies in singing competition.
This is an opinion. Why? Because of the word BEST and ALL.

Siti Nurhaliza is a female singer who starts her career at the early age which is 17.
This is a fact. Why? Because this sentence has a number and we know that Siti is a female.

That's all for today guys. Hopefully it will help you to enhance your knowledge. Thank you ^_*

Nice to meet you again buddies! As usual, I will keep on sharing with you all about my experience and also knowledge that I had experienced and learnt. M- main idea
I-   identify supporting details
D- disregard unimportant information
A- analyze
S- simplify

PERVERT: someone tender to harass other gender.
EXPLICIT: clearly shown

Wednesday 27/6/2012

Dude! I don’t think I can share many things with you all today because we were continue with our presentation last night for those who are not present yet. Sorry :)

Tuesday 26/6/2012

Good night everyone! Haha. I was jump in joy today because Miss Zu had satisfied with my group’s task. Again, she praised Ayu and I. VERY GOOD! Now, I feel like the king of the world. Haha. I feel that all my effort was appreciated and all my sacrifice was paid. Thank god!

We have to present about our topic today which is we have to give 5 sources and give the points about our topic. Actually, this is the most challenging task that I had ever done! It makes us to brainstorm our idea. Too hard beb! So, the sources that Rahayu and I choose are journal, newspaper, article, internet and others opinion, whereas the points that we choose are it will cause the large number of wastage, it caused people to delay their marriage and the couple will have misunderstanding and they will also argue with each other. We had decided to write the discussion essay with pattern number 2. Unfortunately, the pattern asked us to write 3 positive points but we don’t have any positive point. So, Miss Zu had helped us and created another pattern that is pattern 3 just for us. Thanks lot to Miss Zu. However, we still had to write one positive effect for our point and we have to find one more sources. But, it’s okay. It’s enough to help us.

Let's look for this chart if you still blur with what I had explained just now.

Broad topic:
Wedding of the Year Event

Narrowed topic:
Disadvantages of Wedding of the Year Event

Focused topic:
Wedding of the Year Event in Malaysia: The negative effects towards Malaysian couples.

Monday 25/6/2012 PARAPHRASING

Hello buddies! Today we are discussed about paraphrasing. So, for your all information, paraphrase means expressing someone else’s ideas using your own words. It’s a way of presenting a text using different words and phrases without changing its original meaning. When paraphrasing, you need to mention the author’s name so that your readers know that you are actually discussing someone else’s ideas and not your own. This is a must because it can help to prevent plagiarism.

When paraphrasing, you should:
·        Retain the original meaning of the text.
·         Change the grammar and sentence structure.
·         Use synonyms.
·         Cite the original source.

Okey. Let me give you all an example!

At present, students are poor writers, because they lack ideas and have poor writing skills.
Halim Mokhtar, Writing Quandary (2008)

According to Halim, students are not able to write well because they do not have the knowledge or a good command of the language.

So guys, that’s how you paraphrase the sentences oke. You must make sure that you are not copied the same sentences from the sources. You must change it into your own words. Don’t forget yahh dude! There has an equipment that can detect whether you are plagiarised or not. It has 3 colours for the equipment. Green, yellow and red colour. When it turns red, you better careful! Because Mizz Zu had warned us that she will not give us any marks if that thing happens. As what Miss Zu said, Uitm has to pay almost thousand ringgit for that equipment in a year. How expensive right? Of course it will be beneficial to the lecturers and being disadvantages to us right? Haha. I’m just kidding. Just to warn you all to make your own words and do not take the others effort. Enjoy your writing beb!

Jargon: Refers to the word and expressions that are difficult to understand or something that feel weird to certain person

Wednesday 20/6/2012 ^_*

Today all partners had to present the topic that they had chosen. The topic must be interesting and seldom been discussed by others because Miss Zu doesn’t want the common topic or what we called cliché! Huuh. For the first time, Rahayu and I had decided to choose an Illegal Racing topic or known as ‘Mat Rempit’. Why we choose this topic? Because we think that the topic is easy and very common to us and also became the most critical social problems in Malaysia nowadays.

The crisis happens when Mizz Zu reminded us yesterday. We still remember every word that came from her mouth. Wow! Then, Ayu gave her opinion to choose Wedding of the Year topic. I was totally disagree with her because for me it was so difficult and the sources were also hard to found. For that time, we have an argument until we got the final decision. At last, I have to admit that Ayu had defended her topic with her sources also. So, we have decided to choose Wedding of the Year as our term paper’s topic. What do you think dude?

When it come to our turn to present, we went to the in front of the class with full of nervous. Miss Zu was very surprised when she heard the topic. Then she asked us whether we can find the topic in the journal. When I say yes, she was totally shocked. How can people do research about that topic? It's sound weird? But that’s the fact! It’s there! Finally, Miss Zu had agreed with our topic when I show to her the topic in the journal. We were praised by her because she said that our topic was very interesting but she asked us to read more. Ok Miss Zu. We will do that. She also asked us to add the word "event" in the back of our topic. So, the topic for our term paper would be ‘WEDDING OF THE YEAR EVENT’. Thanks to Miss Zu for the lovely topic!
