COMPARE AND CONTRAST ESSAY

Today our class was in the computer laboratory. As you all know, if the class was in the lab, of course we will did an essay. So, today we were written the compare and contrast essay. Before we start our writing, Miss Zu had explained to us about the techniques to write this type of essay. Miss Zu also provide us with the Venn diagram to ensure that we will be more understand with this essay. Miss Zu had showed to us one movie and we had to write an essay based on that movie. Did you all know what is the movie? Haha. This is the movie.   

Yahh, I'm sure that all of you start to feel weired and think that I'm crazy right? How can we write an essay based on this story? What type of essay did we had to write? Just thanks to Miss Zu for her great idea and asked us to compare between the 2 character in that movie. So, who are the character?

Bree Van De Kamp

Lynette Scavo

That's the fact. We make a compare and contrast about Bree Van De Kamp and Lynette Scavo. Then, we need to find the similarities of this character and the differences for both character. The differences that we had figured out are attitude, children management and the way they control their family. What is the similarities? Haa, since this movie is about housewife, of course the similarities would be housewife.

TOPIC SENTENCE AND IMPLIED MAIN IDEAS

Today, I will talk to you all about the Topic Sentence and Implied Main Ideas. 

• The main idea of a passage is the thought that is present from the beginning to the end. 

• Usually the paragraph have 2 types of sentences:

1. A topic sentence (contains the main ideas) 
2. One ore more detail sentence (support, prove, provide more information, explain or give more examples) 

• Rules for finding the topic sentence

1. The topic sentence is usually first, but could be in any position in the paragraph.
2. A topic is usually more general than the other sentences, that is, it talks about many things and looks at the big picture. 
3. Detail sentence are usually more specific than the topic, that is they usually talk about one single or small part of an idea. 

• What is implied main idea?

1. some paragraphs has no topic sentence.
2. this doesn't mean that there is no main idea.
3. the main idea is implied or unstated or hidden which mean you have to figure it out by yourself.

DEBATE

Assalammualaikum guys. Today Miss Zu had asked us to do a debate. So Miss Zu had divided us into 4 groups. Actually, this is the preparation for our speaking practice. Let check it out.

Then the two groups which are group 1 and group 2 had debated based on the topic ‘Is it considered cheating when your partner was checking on other beautiful (girls/boys) on facebook?’ Miss Zu had decided that group 1 will be totally agreed with the topic while the group 2 will totally disagree about the topic. Group 1 stands their decision with their points because they said that is the way for them to look for another partner. Besides that, they will do that because they are bored with their partner. However, group 2 still defends their decision with their points that they will do that only for their business. That is also to spend their free time and to have many friends. In my opinion, if our intention is good, we can use the Facebook as one of the medium for us to explore many things such as friends, knowledge and current events.

Lastly, group 3 and group 4 had debated about ‘Is it true that men are easy to work with and more creative than women especially when it involves group work?’.  I was in the group 4 who were totally agreed about this topic. For us, men are easy to work because they are more creative thinking rather than the women. Moreover, men have 9 brain and 1 lust compared to women who only have 1 brain but 9 lust. Finally, we think that men are more professional while the women are more emotional especially when they need to make a decision. Nonetheless, our points had been refute by group 3 with the points that women are more alert when doing their work and they do not do their work at the last minutes compared to the men who like to do their work at eleventh hour. For me, of course I will defend my gender right? But, I think that everyone has their own characteristics and it is based on us to make our own evaluation.

30/7/2012 SO DO YOU THINK YOU CAN ACT AND SING!

Dude! Something had made me curious when I came to the class and saw at the whiteboard something that had been wrote by Miss Zu that is So Do You Think You Can Act and Sing? Is that sound interesting? Haha, but I feel very weird with that writing until Miss Zu explained to us the real activity that will be carrying out today. What do you think about that? So, today we have to be an actor and actress and also the singer. How can we do that Miss Zu? Never mind, we will still do the best just to make Miss Zu happy and smile. Haha. As usual, Miss Zu had divided us into 5 groups. Then each group need to pick one piece of newspaper as our title to start our acting. So, let’s enjoy with our drama musical today! Have fun.

The first group are Hanifah’s group with the story of a tourist who came to the Bazaar Ramadhan to buy the food. His members are Jasman, Siti Fara, Amanda, Rosfarina and Rina. They used the Malay songs that been translated to the English song. They have chosen the ‘Cek Mek Molek Song’. However, their show were not ended just like that, they gave us some surprised when they sang a Malay song, ‘Harapan Ramadhan’ with English version. It was very creative and Miss Zu was also happy with that song.

Now, let’s continue with Amir’s group with his members Nisa, Aida, Arina and Suhana. They have choose a Price Tag song for their show as the got a title Shopping for their show. It was about customer who likes to see the good but do not interested to buy it.  

This group’s show was about the government employees who got the bonus from government and they were so happy with that bonus. Their actor and actress for this group were Ikhwan, Fatin, Ferzia, Zahira and Hajar. Their song that had been chosen for this show is Thank You Allah from Maher Zain. The funniest thing that happened in this show was when Ikhwan being the Prime Minister and announced about the bonus in the television.

Yahh, now it’s the turn for me to tell about my group. My members for this show are Muaz, Mimi, Siti Khadijah and Rafidah. We got a title about Kidnapping. So, we had decided to make a story about a student who wants to go home for Hari Raya. Because of too excited to go home, they take a taxi so that they can reach their home faster. Unfortunately, the driver had a bad intention to them and he want to kidnap them. Then, the driver calls the mother of student to have the ransom. For our show, we had chosen the Love You like a Love Song and Wish You Were Here song.

The last group had acted a story about Vote for Election with their actor and actress that are Afiq, Syahira, Rahayu, Shawalni and Zanariah. Their songs are Looking to the Moon and We are Young. As usual, Afiq will become the comedian and he made this group glowing and they were made us happy with their comedy and made Miss Zu and we laughed. 

                     

 

                     

FORUM

.

‘FORUM’. Did you all know what that is? A forum is a place, situation or group in which people exchange ideas and discuss issues, especially important public issues. Haah I’m sure that all of you feel weird right why I was suddenly talk about the forum. Haha, actually Miss Zu had prepared one activity today which is Forum to prepare for our speaking practice.

Let’s talk about our forum. First, I will talk about my own topic. My group had been given trust by Miss Zu to discuss about Inflation and Its Solution. When we got this topic, we are just smiling because this topic was related with our economic subject for the last semester. So, it was easier for us to discuss about this topic. Our group have 5 members which are Ferzia, Muaz, Fatin, Rafidah and me. Ferzia has been chosen by us to be a host. Something that surprised us were Ferzia was did her job very well and Miss Zu also praised her and said that she was improve a lot. We were proud with her.

Overall, I think that we had done our best to complete this task.

The members of second group are Rahayu, Shawal, Amanda, Fara, Amir and Nisa with the topic Effective Way of Conserving Electricity. Shawal had been the host for this group and I was very impressed with her because she did her job very well. I was so proud with her. In my opinion, I feel that this group is also done their task with a good job. 

The third group with the topic Save Our Planet are Rina, Ikhwan, Aida, Arina and Jasman as the host. I think I should give an applause to Ikhwan because he could presented her point with a good explanation even though their other members said to us that he do not did any preparation for that forum. 

The other group are Hanifah’s group with the topic The Cleanliness and Good Maintenance of Public Amenities. He became the host with his members that are Rosfarina, Hajar, Siti Khadijah and Hajar. Hanifah had done a very good job as the host. For me, the way he implement their job as the host is very nice. 

The last group are Afiq the Great’s group and his member are Shahira, Mimi, Zahira and Zana with the topic How to Increase Youth Awareness of Patriotism. My Goodness, this group took about a half hour to present their topic because Afiq became the host. No wonder right? However, we still thanked to this group because they had cheer us with their joke especially. In fact, we were very enjoying with our forum tonight. I think you all should give a big applause to all of us because we had executed our job successfully.

Now, as what Miss Zu wanted, I will choose the three winners which are the best group, the best host and the best panel. 

First I will tell to you all about the best host and of course it should be given to the best from the rest that is Siti Shawalni. Congratulation dear, you did a very good job! The best panel will be given to Shahira. I choose her because I think that he had improved a lot. She always said to me that she can’t present well but she had work hard and the result can bee seen in that night. Congratulation dear! The last but not least is the best group. If I don’t tell you all, I’m sure that all of you had already known the group right. Ok, a very big congratulation to Afiq’s group. You all did a very good job guys :)

Ok dude, today I will share with you all about How to Write an Introduction. Before that, let see the function of the introduction. 

* It attracts the reader’s interest to continue reading the essay or get the readers’ attention.

* It supplies background information needed to understand the essay.

* It presents a thesis statement, the main idea of the essay, usually towards the end of the introduction.

* It indicates a plan of the essay’s development (optional).

* Set tone for the rest of the essay

The Parts of the Introductory Paragraph:

1. The Hook - Designed to grab attention immediately and give some indication about the essay’s topic

2. The Transition - Moves the reader from the hook to the driving force of the essay….

3. The Thesis Statement - Makes the contract with the reader about what will be discussed without a blatant announcement.
